The Rule

"If I wouldn't send my wife, my mom, or my client there, it doesn't make the list."

That is the whole filter. Nobody pays to be here and nobody ever will. This list grows one spot at a time, as we eat our way through the town, which is genuinely one of the better parts of moving somewhere new.

We moved here in June 2025 from the Chicago suburbs, and one of the first things you do in a new town is figure out where to eat. Not the places with the biggest sign on Main Street. The places locals quietly default to.

A year in, here is what has earned a permanent spot in our rotation. It is a short list on purpose. I would rather give you three places I would stake my name on than twenty I pulled off a review site.

New arrivals ask me this constantly, usually somewhere between the inspection and the closing, so I finally wrote it down.

The Rating

Solid. I would go back. It does the job and does it right.

Genuinely good. I take people here when they visit.

The top of the list. Handed out rarely and never casually.

Hermie's Drive-In

Burgers · Shakes · Cedar City institution

My favorite burger in town, and it is not close. Hermie's is an old-school drive-in on North Main, the kind of place that has been doing one thing well for long enough that it stopped needing to prove anything. Burgers and shakes, done right, without a single unnecessary flourish.

This is where I take out-of-state clients when they want to understand the town rather than just tour it. You learn more about Cedar City in twenty minutes here than in an afternoon of driving around.

Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine

★★ Spank-alicious

Thai · Sit down · The elevated option

The best Asian food in Cedar City, and a step above what you would expect a town this size to have. Sweet Basil is Thai, properly done, and it is where we go when we want to actually sit down and eat rather than grab something on the way somewhere.

If you are relocating from a bigger city and quietly worried about what you are giving up on the food side, this is the place I point to first. It closes that gap more than you would think.

Silver Silo Bakery & Espresso

Bakery · Coffee · Morning meetings

Where I take morning meetings. Silver Silo does bakery and espresso out on Cross Hollow Road, and it has become my default for a first conversation with a new client. Good coffee, room to spread out paperwork, and nobody rushing you out.

If we are meeting for the first time and you let me pick, this is usually where I say.

The list keeps growing.

Barbers, breakfast, tacos, date night, the hardware store where someone actually helps you. They get added as they earn it, not to fill a page. If there is a Cedar City business you would vouch for, tell me. I go myself before anyone goes on this list.
